Horizon T101 – Multi award winning no frills treadmill with 30 programs, lifetime warranty on FRAME & MOTOR, heart monitor, surround sound speakers, hydraulic storage assist & cooling fan
Today, many fitness enthusiasts choose to work out on their own time and their own terms. That means no more expensive gym memberships, no personal trainer, and no pie-in-the-sky DVD program claiming that you can lose half you body weight overnight. If you want to join the ever growing army of treadmill home workout devotees lets see how the multi award winning Horizon T101 can help.
The Horizon T101 Sets The Pace
The Horizon Fitness T101 treadmill can be described as both solid and durable, yet flexible.
The T101’s has a 2.25 continuous horse power motor which is sufficient for light jogging and brisk walking. However, the motor and the belt aren’t strong enough for high intensity workouts. If you are not using it at a blistering pace, and are of average weight, it will hold up quite well.
The machine has what is called PerfectFLEX cushioning system, which is designed for support and shock absorption. This, too, isn’t considered to be top of the line – but it does provide adequate relief for your joints and back. Put it this way it will be more forgiving than running on the road or pavement.
In addition to the actual operating features, you also don’t need lots of space for this treadmill, because the Horizon T101 easily folds up when you aren’t using it, leaving you plenty of living space to do other things when you’re not burning calories. It is also quite small and light – only 165 pounds.
The Horizon T101 also comes with a high number of workout programs – 30 to be precise. These can be accessed by the simple to use and clean looking console display. These programs allow you to work over distance, steps, intervals, or just go for the calorie burn. The machine provides quick-touch controls, so it is easy to check how far you’ve gone and how many calories you have burned during your workout.
In addition, the treadmill also includes a cooling fan that is easy to control, as well as audio speakers. This makes it convenient for those who don’t like to wear headphones while working out, yet still prefer to listen to music or other audio.
Assembly & Storage
Assembly is pretty easy as most of the parts are steel welded, which also makes the treadmill extremely sturdy and quick to put together. There are only 12 bolts and 8 screws that you need to tighten to get the treadmill up and ready for use. It can be put together by one person.
It weighs 165 pounds, and this also helps keep it stable when you are working it. There are 2 hydraulic shocks that help you lift the treadmill when you want to fold it away.
Some of treadmill manufacturers like Precor offer a maintenance free experience with their treadmills. But for most brands you will have to look after your product and apply lubrication. This can be a cumbersome task and it is usually better with 2 people on hand.
For the T101 you need to loosen the belt and apply some lubricant. The belt needs to be held up as you spread lubricant evenly across it so you ideally need another person to help. It can be tricky when it comes to tightening up the belt again and realigning it.
There is a nice manufacturer’s warranty that is offered on the t101 treadmill. With this, should either the motor or the frame need replacement, they are covered for life. There is also a one-year warranty on the electronics, parts, and labor. Some manufacturers only cover parts for 3 months (Merit 715 plus Treadmill), which quite frankly says a lot.
How the Horizon t101 Stacks Up Against the Competition
As compared with some of the other models out there in the same price bracket, the Horizon t101 can definitely hold its own.
This model has been tweaked since its inception and the current model is the horizon fitness t101-04 treadmill. There were some areas where the machine came up short – but depending on what a user is looking for, these particular features may not really matter.
If you can invest in a Sole F80 treadmill here is where the Horizon falls behind:
- Running surface – at 20″ X 55″ – it’s adequate but not great for those with longer strides
- Maximum speed – 10 mph versus 12 mph on more serious models
- Incline – 10% versus 12-15% on most others
- Motor horse power – 2.25 versus 3 on many others
- Maximum user weight – 300 pounds versus 350 to 400 on other models
- Motor can be a little loud
Areas Where The T101 Excels
Saying that not everyone is over 300 pounds, and not everyone will need to run at over 12mph. The workout programs are varied, the warranty is good, and the running surface will be ok for most people.
It’s true that manufactures are putting more power into the motors and adding more belt length, but bear in mind, the top of the range commercial treadmill Precor 9.35 only has a 56″ treadbelt.
Conversely, on areas that users may have more interest such as workout programs, the Horizon excelled with 30, versus only 10 to 15 on many of the other competing models that were compared. That’s versatile.
This treadmill is made by Johnson – who also build less able Merit 715t Plus. This is however a way better treadmill – it has more features, comfort, better parts including the motor and warranty. Johnson are a huge health and fitness manufacturer and they make treadmills to suit every range.
You can get other treadmills. Weslo Cadence make some of the best treadmills. But you miss out on program variety, warranty length, surround sound speakers, a steeper incline and a higher max user weight.
Who Should Consider Purchasing This Treadmill?
This treadmill is great for those who are just starting out, or if you may only be using it sporadically. The machine’s 2.25-horsepower motor easily maintains 10 miles per hour. However, the treadmill seems to be the most stable when the user is either walking or doing a slower jog.
The machine is also more adept for those who are of average height. This is because the actual tread surface is 55 inches long – although it thrashes models like the Merit 715t that only has 47″. This can make it somewhat difficult for taller runners to get into full stride. Therefore, this may not be the ideal model for anyone who is 6 foot or taller.
Likewise, because of the 300 pound weight limit, anyone who is at, near, or above this weight should likely look elsewhere for a more comfortable fit.
- 30 workout programs

Could Improve Upon

Horizon T101 Review Verdict
Overall, the Horizon t101 treadmill is especially for those who are looking to get in a good workout and don’t need a lot of the additional bells and whistles. This machine is easy to use, easy to store plays audio, and if it has any issues at all, it also offers a decent warranty through the manufacturer.
For both runners and walkers who are just starting out, or for those who just simply don’t like to fight the crowd at the gym, this treadmill may be the perfect choice for you – because one of the best things about the Horizon t101 treadmill is that it covers the basics really well.
